Interior Cabinet Secretary has asked CNN to apologize over the characterization of Kenya as a terror hotbed.

Nkaissery was reacting to comments made by CNN in the program Erin Burnett Outfront where the station claimed that President Obama is at great risk due to terror threats in Kenya. (READ: CNN says Kenya is one of the most dangerous countries in the world, expresses concern over Obama visit)

The CS accused CNN of engaging in anti-Kenya propaganda and added that the station should apologize to Kenyans.

“Our attention has been drawn to the report by CNN discrediting the security of Kenya,” said Nkaissery.

” If CNN is civilized enough, they should apologise,” he said. “I urge Kenyans to treat the CNN report with the contempt it deserves.”

Nkaissery also said that Kenya like any other country in the world is at the risk of terror attacks but the attacks do not turn it into a hotbed. He added that the CNN’s report underestimating Kenya’s security is based on lies and shows irresponsibility.

In the introduction to the segment, Kate Bolduan, CNN reporter standing in for regular host Erin Burnett  led with a statement “…..and now security concerns for President Obama on the eve of his trip to one of the most dangerous countries in the world.”

She discussed the security breach as a copy of the redacted document sent by the KQ official to the two Nairobi airports was displayed on the screen.

She said that the breach was serious considering the document was also posted on Facebook.

During the show, she interviewed a former Secret Service agent who said that the President’s trip to Kenya trip “is one of the most dangerous trips that the president has taken.”

Jonathan Wackrow, who was in President Obama’s secret service security detail for five years said that the leaking of the details raise the threat level during the President’s trip. He said that Obama’s trip to Kenya had been anticipated for a long time and anybody who wanted to plan against the President had time to prepare.

“People have been anticipating this trip since he became President,” he said. “People who want to hurt the President have been preparing for seven years.”

Former CIA Operative and Intelligence Analyst Robert Bauer said that Obama’s trip to Kenya is the perfect storm for a terror attack and that this trip is not worth the risk for Mr Obama. He cited Kenya’s concern with terror flowing in from Somalia that they are considering erecting a wall between the two countries. He also said that the fact that Kenya’s Muslims make about 11% of the country’s population is a terror concern.

Kenyans on Twitter also took to the medium to protest the CNN report.
