Nation Media Group and Equity Bank have launched an electronic paper mobile application to boost diaspora investments.
The NMGEquity ePaper platform enables the two corporates work together in reaching out to their target groups for news and banking products.
Nation Media Group Editor in Chief Tom Mshindi said the app which offers both news and targeted financial products will transform the country’s investment spectrum.
“We have a huge diaspora audience and this kind of a platform that gives them access to both news and avenues for financial investment will be a big boost for them. We will have all the Nation Media Group publications available on the app in three months’ time,” Mr Mshindi said.
The application is already available on play store for android phones and later on the app store for ios phones.

NMG’s flagship newspaper product, Daily Nationwill be available on the app first while Business Dailyand Daily Monitor (Uganda) and the East Africanwill be available in two weeks.
Rwanda Today and Tanzanian publicationMwananchi and the Swahili Sports newspaperMwanaspoti will follow after.
Equity bank Chief executive James Mwangi said the bank hopes to promote its diaspora products through the app while leveraging on Nation’s extensive audience.
“We are providing an integrated investment solution for the diaspora through this digital channel and giving a professional touch through regular updates on investment environment and many innovative products that will suit our diaspora clientele. We will be posting stock exchange and real estate opportunities with analysis of these products to make it seamless for our customers,” Mr Mwangi said.
The home page for the app will allow the opening of diaspora accounts, applications for diaspora loans and stock trading with an aim to reduce diaspora dependence on informal investment channels.
The application is free for the first one month of download but will attract subscription fees thereafter.
