Shock and grief engulfed Iria village of Kahuti sub location in Murang’a County after residents found a pastor’s body beheaded and his head put in a sufuria.
According to Eunice Kabura, a block elder under the Nyumba Kumi initiative and who was the first person to arrive at the scene of crime, Bedan’s body was seen from his kitchen door where she first saw gumboots peeping at the door and at first she thought that the aging man had fainted. Bedan Mwangi, was a 64 year old man.
After closer look, Kabura decided to call the area assistant chief and narrated the horrifying incident that she had witnessed.
By the time of the killing, Bedan was alone in the house as it is claimed that she had quarreled with his wife whom they had been having issues for a long time, some of which had arbitrated by the area assistant chief John Irungu Mwangi which he confirmed .
The assistant chief who said the deceased has reported several cases of conflicts affirmed that arrests will be made before day ends as investigations were underway.
Irungu explained that apart from the beheading, the deceased body bore marks that indicated that he was first hit by a blunt object before he was beheaded in cold blood, killings that he explained was horrifying.
Irungu was however quick to dispute that the beheading could have been conducted by illegal Mungiki group who are famous in beheadings, saying that Bedan’s horrifying murder must have emanated from family wrangles.
Deceased son in law Maingi Ndegwa also confirmed that there has also been a tag of war about land boundaries within the family.
Chege Mwangi who is the elder son to the deceased lamented that security in the area had a lapse and called on security personnel to ensure that his father’s killers are prosecuted.
However, Chege also confirmed that his mother who was together with him during this interview clad in a green dress and head gear, had indeed serious problems with his father and thus by the time of murder, her mother had gone to Nairobi two weeks earlier where she has been staying with her children, who came back to the village after hearing their father’s death.
